Fragile, Loosely Knitted Jacket, Feels Nice

I really enjoy how comfortable and warm this jacket is, but I'm disappointed in how fragile it is and how extreme the pilling is. Comments about Boiled Wool Shirt Jacket

An unusual but pretty cool thing that I expect to wear often this spring. The boiled wool is a nice heavy and dense material, warm and bound to be durable. Be aware that the piece is unlined, making it more of a shirt than a jacket, so sleeves don't glide smoothly over other wooly things. Size and colour are great, as shown in the online image.

Comments about Boiled Wool Shirt Jacket

I really enjoy how comfortable and warm this jacket is, but I'm disappointed in how fragile it is and how extreme the pilling is. (You'll be pulling massive balls of pilled wool off every time you wear it.) Boiled wool is made from a knitted textile being fulled in hot/boiling water to shrink and interlock the fibres, and then often processed for a smooth/felted sort of finish. If you hold this jacket up to a light you can see it's a very loose knit, even after the "boiling", and I believe this to be a cost-cutting measure, as boiled wool is often a very dense fabric. It's possible this was done to adapt a heavy woollen product to a fast fashion crowd, but I think that's likely being too generous. Overall it's nice, but far less usable than I was hoping when spending money on a product labelled boiled wool. The tag inside the jacket says "Knitted Jacket - Indonesia". If I saw that label I would not have bought it.

6'1 175 pounds medium fits great! The Fit is slightly boxy, but i find it flattering (and that's coming from someone who usually dislikes boxy fits).

In a league of it's own ..

this may the fastest jacket that sold out late November. I patiently waited until it was re stocked. 100% wool. Can't find this jacket anywhere for any price. A classic wool coat for winter weather. Has side pockets and inside 2 large interior pockets that can fit large books. Not baggy. The pictures of the fit and color are accurate. Length is ideal. Simple design . It does not draw too much attention and is very classy . Dry clean ..

probably 4 stars at the list price, but definitely worth the extra star as a value proposition. i frankly do not know why it is so hard to find old-school, shirt jacs (with side pockets! who coule possibly foresee that i might want to keep my hands warm if i put on a jacket...), chore coats, CPO jackets, etc in 100% wool, below $400. i had basically given up and had planned to get a wool shirt jac and sew welt pockets into the sides, til i luckily stumbled upon this item. buy it for life, sew elbow patches on in a decade, replace the buttons, hand it down a generation or three. fit: 5'6", 44 chest, 34 waist -- Medium fits perfectly with layering modest base layers, but probably not a hoodie or chunky cable sweater. length is perfect "cover your rear" on me, but there's definitely room to spare if you are taller and expect the jacket to land just slightly below your waist.

Great look and fit is a little large

Quality is great. The wool does shed onto some of my shirts. The fit is a little larger. I wear an XL and might have fit better in a L however for layering it's perfect. It is warm but very breathable which is great for layering and changing environments from outside, transit and office.
