- This luxurious poncho hails from from Catamarca (in the North of Argentina), showcasing the signature guarda pampa design and incredible expertise of generations of craftsman, who have refined their processes to transform natural materials like beautiful alpaca wool and natural dyes--like mulberry, creosote, walnut shells and ceibos--into wearable, wonderous art.
- VAKIANO: Celebrating the rich traditions and craftsmanship of criollo and indigenous artisans from across Latin America, Vakiano works closely with artisans to source luxurious products that showcase their expertise and the beauty of natural, raw materials.
- HOW IT'S MADE: In Argentina's central province of La Pampa, a family of artisans can produce perhaps 4 or 5 ponchos every month. Using time-honored techniques passed down through the generations, each piece begins with the shearing of the sheep, whose wool is then cleaned, sundried, stretched, and spun using a spindle or distaff. Using an ikat technique, the fiber is woven and dyed in a single panel, finished with distinctive fringed ends.
- Each Vakiano piece comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity, signed by the artisan.
- Handmade in Argentina.
