Meet Susan

March 25, 2014

Susan Goss Brown, a vice president for Banana Republic, shares her employee story and what “do more than sell clothes” represents.

I’m definitely one of Gap Inc.’s boomerang employees.

When I started with Gap in 1988, I worked my way up as store manager, area manager, and district manager before leaving the company for another opportunity in 1995. But when a recruiter from Banana Republic called me in 2002, the fond memories came flooding back. I remembered how much I loved the company and its values – there was no doubt that I wanted to return.

I know I’m one of many returnees. But this company truly means so much to me. It’s exposed me to the world and helped me learn who I am and discover strengths I never knew I had.

I was the youngest kid in my family, and growing up I would lay low and stay quiet. When I joined Gap, it allowed me to express a deeper desire to lead and guide people to help reach their potential. It also allowed me to meet my own potential and build a real career.

We don’t just sell clothes here – we take care of people and provide them the opportunity to live and grow. I see those values come to life in Gap Inc. careers every day.

When I heard of the minimum hourly rate increase, my first reaction was simply pride. It was a reminder that the magnitude of what we as Gap Inc. can do can improve thousands of lives. We’re so much bigger than one store, and it’s so important for our associates to know that.
